Surnames from the Memorial Inscriptions of Holy Trinity Church, Edale
Published in October 2012
DESCRIPTION
The parish of Edale was formed in 1863 from Castleton parish, lying 3 miles west of Castleton and about 6 miles north east of Chapel-en-le-Frith. It is situated in a beautiful dale and consists of the scattered houses and hamlets of Nether Booth, Oller Booth, Grinds Booth, Barber Booth and Upper Booth.
The first church was erected here in 1633 and was rebuilt in 1812, as indicated by a block in the wall of the old graveyard. This church was demolished in March 1855 and the materials incorporated in a new church on a fresh site about 100 yards opposite. The site of the old churches now forms the old burial ground.
The registers dating from 1633 are held at the Derbyshire Record Office at Matlock and are available on film to researchers.
